| Soccer: Canada vs. USA |
After losing to team Japan in game 1, the Canada B team bounced back to win its first preliminary match (4-0) against team USA. Canada played a strong defensive game, maintaining good positioning and speed. Team USA should be commended for playing hard despite being riddled with injuries, most notably the fall of Aaron Ota, who sustained a second injury to the back of his knee.
The Canadian team members range in ages from 20 to 31 The majority of the players are from Vancouver, with the exceptions of a Toronto player, a Canadian currently playing in England, and Montreal brothers Adam (#9) and Ben Scoble (# 14). The team has been practicing together for a month, and it has been playing against the other Canadian team to prepare for the tournament. Some of the members have participated in the GACP Conference held in Korea last year, and they described playing at the World Cup stadium in Dae-Jeun as amazing.
When asked to name the player that has best acted the role of a leader, Joe Tschanz (# 22) declared himself (Adam and Ben Scoble seemed to disagree in jest). Actually, Tschanz is the captain and he did lead on the field, scoring the first two goals. Luca Mirabelli (#20) followed with two more in the net to clinch Canadas victory.
Off the field, the host team embraced the cultural exchange aspect of GACP. After game one, Team Japan and Team Canada spent a good hour getting to know each other. Adam Scoble lived in Japan for some time, so he used the opportunity to practice his Japanese. In game two, the Canadian team expressed their appreciation of the Korean cheer team, who supported them in absence of a Canadian one.
