According to the event timeline revealed by JMS Damage Control Council President Kim Jin-ho, its members held a protest requesting a fair investigation of JMS in front of the Gwangju Northern District Police Station from 5:30PM on July 9 of this year. On their way home, JMS members started to follow the JMS Damage Control Council members, who rode in two to three vehicles. President Kim and his fellow JMS Damage Control Council members stopped the vehicle that was following them at the Chonnam National University intersection, and asked them to identify themselves. They did not exit their vehicle, however, President Kim and his fellow members reported the pursuit and terrorist threat to the police.

It has been reported that as President Jinho Kim and his two fellow members were waiting for the police to arrive and barricading the vehicle, the vehicle scrambled forward and the Damage Control Council members suffered serious life-threatening injuries.

Due to the accident caused by the vehicle, Jinho Kim and his two fellow members suffered injuries to their knees and backs and were hospitalized in a hospital in Gwangju. One of them had cartilage damage and is currently going through a complete medical examination.

According to the JMS Damage Control Council, there have recently been numerous incidents of the JMS members following and threatening people who oppose JMS. Similarly, the organization’s members say, violence from JMS has been quite dangerous.

During a press conference critical of JMS on March 28th, JMS former follower Min Jongeun, who had carried out terroristic acts under direct orders from Joeng Myeong-seok, the president and religious leader of JMS, to engage in a revenge attack against a female follower in 2003, confessed that he had carried out terroristic acts against Kim Hyeong-jin, who had carried out anti-JMS activities.

Accordingly, while the investigation of the Joeng Myeon-seok directed attack is underway in Jeonju, there is growing interest in this incident that has occurred so close to the decision as to whether or not there will be an arrest in the Myeongsek Jeong teacher revenge attack.

July 19, 2012: 기독교복음선교회 집단, 미행·테러 기도…위협 행보 이어져 (Sisa Times)

[Uhm Mu-hwan, Sisa Tines Chief Editor] There has been an incident in which devoted believers of Jeong Myeong-seok Jeong (President, Christian Gospel Mission), who has been sentenced for 10 years as a sex offender and is currently incarcerated in Daejeon Prison, have committed life-threatening attack with their vehicle against JMS Damage Control Council (President Kim Jin-ho), and it is known that there is an ongoing police investigation.

According to the event timeline revealed by the JMS Damage Control Council, its members had a protest requesting a fair investigation of the Christian Gospel Mission case in front of the Gwangju Northern District Police Station starting at 17:30PM on July 10th, and were on their way home. Meanwhile, Christian Gospel Mission believers started to follow the JMS Damage Control Council members, riding in two to three vehicles. President Kim and his fellow JMS Damage Control Council members stopped the vehicle that was following them at the Chonnam National University intersection, and asked them to identify themselves. As they did not exit their vehicle, however, President Kim and his fellow members reported the pursuit and terroristic threat to the police and waited for the police to arrive.

The incident occurred then. As President Kim and his two fellow members were barricading the vehicle, the vehicle scrambled forward. It was an accident through which JMS Damage Control Council members suffered a threat to their lives.

Due to this intentional vehicular crash, President Kim and his two fellow members suffered injuries to their knees and backs, were hospitalized in Gwangju, and are currently in treatment. The JMS Damage Control Council claims that this incident is an extremely significant one.

As to why, they stated that “there have recently been a streak of incidents of the Christian Gospel Mission continuously following and threatening people who oppose the Christian Gospel Mission, and there have been concerns about possible organized terrorism attempts by the Christian Gospel Mission,” and that “this incident is the embodiment of such concern, in which they actually followed and assaulted, with a vehicle, people who oppose the Christian Gospel Mission.”

In the police investigation, the follower claimed at first that he was not a believer of the Christian Gospel Mission, but, as verified by people who once were CGM believers and left, the suspect, who attempted the chase and vehicular assault, turned out to a member of the CGM in its Gwangju church.

The JMS Damage Control Council raised its voice, arguing that “such violence by the CGM has turned out to be extremely menacing, and the CGM’s terrorism attempts, which threaten people’s lives, must be subject to severe punishment by governmental authority.”

As to why there has been this rash of incidents of the CGM members following and threatening the JMS Damage Control Council members, President Kim explained that “we once pledged allegiance to and served JMS, as we were infatuated with the CGM and its followers, just like they are now, but belatedly realized how wrong it was and left; and now we want to let the world know about the wrongs of the CGM, and we want to prevent that from happening, as the true identities of Jeong Myeong-seok and his followers are being revealed.”

In fact, in a press conference denouncing the CGM on March 28th, Jongeun Min (imprisoned in Jeonju Penitentiary), a CGM member, confessed that Jeong Myeong-seok, the President and religious leader of the CGM, instigated his believers to retaliate with violence against people who oppose the CGM.

In this press conference, Mr. Min stated that he then “was directly asked to, and did, commit the terroristic acts,” and “realized, after living a life of escape (on the run/ in hiding) for 9 years, that Jeong Myeong-seok is a fraud, and would like to admit now that Jeong instigated his followers to terrorize Kim Hyeong-jin, who opposed the CGM.”

In response, the Jeonju District Prosecutor’s Office is now investigating the revenge attack instigated by Jeong.

There is a growing interest in what kind of effects this incident, which occurred immediately before the decision as to whether there would be an arrest in the revenge attack instigated by Jeong, would have on Jeong's prosecution.
