The first 30-minute episode, and below a Korean news report, and below that, a short English piece:

First English article, albeit not that professionally written. Still, it all helps:

Recently, one TV program of CBS ‘The People in the Shincheonji’ causes controversy in Korean society.

‘Shinchenoji’ is a newly created religion, it means ‘New heaven and earth’, and its full name is ‘Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony’.

Shincheonji has been criticized on many different levels. Similar to other new religious movements, it has been labeled in Korea as “pseudo-religion” or  “religious cult”.

It because the believers of Shincheonji have occurred many social crime and problems, mission with violence and sex.

On the 16th of Mar, the first episode of ‘The People in the Shincheonji’ went on the air, and the audience shocked about their unbelievable faith to Shincheonji and strange actions.

According to the CBS, Shincheonji brings lots of antisocial actions such as family breakdown, abandonment of school work, suicide and divorce.

On the other hand, Shincheonji totally denied the contents of the program, and applied for an injunction of CBS ‘The People in the Shincheonji’.

A Press Conference to Denounce CBS False and Distorted Broadcasting

On the 8th of April, the Coercive Conversion Education Victims Association and New Heaven and Earth (Shincheonji) held a press conference to denounce CBS false and distorted broadcasting at the Gwanghwamun Sejong Art Center in Seoul.

Shincheonji News: Disproof of CBS False Distorted Broadcasting
Sixty-six media organizations, including newspapers, attended the conference and ninety-nine articles were published. All the reports cover CBS’s false and distorted broadcasting.

CBS unilaterally aired things that are not true as if they are true to make money with coercive conversion education pastors without the confirmation of Shincheonji Church of Jesus (hereinafter Shincheonji) and the Coercive Conversion Education Victims Association. Because of this, this reputation of Shincheonji and the Association has been defamed. How can we call this CBS a religious broadcasting company?

False and distorted reports for money, coercive conversion education for money, and putting the blame for all of their wrongs on Shincheonji .These actions are brutalities through which religious people have violated human rights.

Shincheonji News: A Press Conference to Denounce CBS False
How can trampling on others’ human rights in the name of religion not be considered a sin? If the religious broadcasters, Mr. Shin, and Mr. Jin had believed and kept the promises in God’s word like those recorded in Matthew 5:44 and Matthew 7:1-5, they wouldn’t have broadcasted false and distorted content.

Throughout 6000 years of Biblical history, pastors who belong to devil have persecuted and killed God’s messengers of each era, including Jesus and his disciples. That is why Stephen said, “You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? (Acts 7:51-52).”

If they were the ones who received God’s commandments and kept them, they wouldn’t have broadcasted false and distorted content. They must have done it because they like money better than God, and they are more interested in deceiving people with lies than the truth.

Now God will lift up an iron mace against them. God must judge the false and distorted broadcasting of the corrupted pastors and religious body. This distorted broadcasting must be commanded by a false god, which is a false spirit, not by God’s instruction.

God, who came at the time of First Coming, came today according to the path promised in the words of prophecy to judge the corrupted Spiritual Israel. The judgment has begun as stated in John 12:48 and Revelation 20:12.

Those who do not receive the revelation of heaven, those who add to and take away from the prophecies of the New Testament, that is, Revelation, those who do not believe in the promise, those who practice falsehood, and the dogs are judged (refer to Rv 21:8, 22:15).

Would the sin of people who curse and oppose the promised pastor even though he has done something that no one could do be small? There will be people who come to the resurrection of life and people who come to the resurrection of judgment (Jn 5:29).

Those who take evil as good and false as truth and those who persecute out of habit will become like the farmers in Luke 20:9-18. No matter how much good work is carried out or how much truth is spoken to those born of the seed of the false god, they bite and tear apart those who are doing good and speaking truth. Can they be saved? There is only judgment for them.

Retribution for enemies belongs to God, and now is the time when God reigns (Heb 10:30, Rv 19:6). Everybody is judged according to what they have done as recorded in the Bible, and will either go to heaven or hell (Rv 20:12-15).

Court Rules CBS May Call Shincheonji an Antisocial Group

•   CBS No Cut News, Song Ju-yeol

CBS (president Han Yong-gil) broadcast an 8-part documentary from March 16 to April 7 of last year entitled, “2000 Hours of Observation: People Lost to Shincheonji”, in which they investigated the truth about the cult called Shincheonji and caused a great sensation. Shincheonji, becoming concerned about a crisis, accused CBS of defamation and filed a lawsuit requesting compensation of 3 billion won. The court recently ruled that CBS was allowed to call Shincheonji an anti-human group in its program. [Editor’s note]

The court broadly acknowledged the public benefit of CBS’ 8-part special documentary, “People Lost to Shincheonji”.

The Seoul Southern District Court’s 15th Civil Affairs Department ruled in regards to Shincheonji’s suit requesting compensation for damages due to defamation from CBS that there was no problem with CBS’ exposure of the antisocial and anti-human truth of the cult.

According to the court’s ruling, “The program was produced and broadcast with the intent of public benefit, to make the familial and social problems that are due to the true nature and operating methods of the creed of Shincheonji, deemed to be a cult separate from mainstream churches, widely known to Christians and non-Christians.”

The court added that, “We must consider that as CBS is a religious channel, it must be given a high degree of protection.”

However, the court noted that the pixelization of a certain Yu, a Shincheonji follower who appeared in Episode 2, was poorly done and ruled that Mr./Ms. Yu must receive compensation of 5 million won, and SCJ must receive 3 million.

The court explained its reasoning for this compensation with the statement, “The pixelization focused on the face, while lower areas including physical contours, clothing, and gestures were recognizable. Voice alteration was also incomplete, and Mr./Ms. Yu could thus be distinguished as a victim.”

Shincheonji also requested refutation or corrections on 30 items of information it found fault with in the 8 parts of the documentary; however, the court approved refutation of only 10 items and corrections for 1.
In detail, the court ruled that Shincheonji’s ruining the lives of young people and encouragement of divorce could not be considered false information and took the side of CBS in stating that another 20 items including emphasis on conditional time-limited eschatology, incorrect interpretation of the Bible, teachings of Lee Man-hee, religious fraud, deification of Lee Man-hee, camouflaged international events, runaways lost to Shincheonji, death of a mother who committed suicide because of her children joining Shincheonji, the second coming of Lee Man-hee, and referring to Lee Man-hee as a savior were also not false information.

Compensation requests from cult experts Jin Yong-sik, the Reverend Shin Hyeon-uk, and a Mr./Ms. Eom who appeared on the broadcast exposing the truth about Shincheonji were also dismissed.

However, the court ruled that Shincheonji could be given opportunities to refute 10 items regardless of whether or not they were true, including encouraging running away from home, brainwashing followers to give up morals, and calling Shincheonji an anti-government group, granting Shincheonji the right to request refutation.

Overall, while Shincheonji had become concerned that society may be alerted due to CBS’ documentary and filed a suit for the large sum of 3 billion won, they did not receive most of this and were only granted compensation of 8 million won in relation to the dignity of a follower who appeared on the program.
Meanwhile, CBS is preparing an appeal, stating that it has verifiable proof of the 10 items ruled subject to refutation or correction.
